According to Mayan tradition the tortillas were invented by a farmer, with the goal of feeding hungry children. The first tortillas date from 10.000 B.C. and were made of dried corn. Nowadays tortillas are made of corn or corn flour cooked in a lime blend. With this dough mixture a pancake is baked. In Mexico tortillas are used as cutlery. Tortilla chips are made by slicing tortillas and then soaking them in oil and baking them in an oven.

The Tortilla Chips BBQ can be served with a drink, as a snack or as a starter with dipping sauce or salsa. The tortilla chips can also be roasted in the oven. Adding some grated cheese makes them extra tasty. Try serving the tortilla chips with delicious home made guacamole, by mushing one or two avocados and adding some onion, salt, pepper and lemon juice, according to taste. The addition of chilli pepper or garlic makes the dip somewhat spicier! Also delicious with dishes like chilli con carne of with a salad for a surprising bite. Once opened the Tortilla Chips BBQ can be stored in a sealed bag and kept fresh for a further three to five days.
